Ethics in social media is a crucial aspect of workplace communication. The increasing role social media has played in professional workplaces has changed our society. Jordan Peterson a prominent role model of mine, provides valuable insights into maintaining integrity and constructive dialogue on social media.
Peterson emphasizes the importance of genuine conversation and active listening in his work. In “12 Rules for Life” he argues that meaningful dialogue requires participants to listen without prematurely forming judgments. This principle is particularly relevant in social media, where quick reactions often dominate. Instead of an instant counter argument, people should approach discussions as opportunities for mutual problem solving. This would make work healthier and more productive in my opinion.
Ethical dilemmas often come up when social media is used in the workplace. For example, professionals might feel pressured to compromise their personal values to align with popular or organizational opinions. This can lead to scenarios where employees like or share content they don’t support. Such actions can persuade certain personal integrity and the ethical standards of organization (SpringerLink)
I find Petersons insights very helpful in my personal life. He points out the importance of addressing social media interactions with a mindset of learning and collaboration. Instead of engaging in confrontational exchanges, professionals should strive to build trust and understanding through respectful and thoughtful communications. (Big Think) I really liked this excerpt; I think everything Peterson stated would be very helpful to millions of people in our country.
In summary, always having some awareness of ethical consideration when social media is in use is essential for maintaining personal integrity and a good work environment. Jordan Petersons principles of active listening, genuine conversation, and integrity provide a solid foundation for navigating these challenges. Professionals can enhance their communication effectiveness and contribute to a more ethical and constructive social media.
